Position Overview: Our firm is seeking a strategic and visionary Tax Director to lead and expand our tax practice. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will be responsible for the overall direction, profitability, and growth of the tax department. You will provide expert guidance on the most complex tax matters, cultivate key client relationships, drive business development initiatives, and mentor a team of talented tax professionals. The Tax Director will play a crucial role in shaping the firm's future and upholding our commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of the tax practice, including service delivery, quality control, and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as the firm's leading expert on complex tax issues, providing consultation to clients and internal teams on sophisticated planning and compliance matters.
  • Develop and execute strategies for client acquisition, retention, and expansion of tax services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with high-value clients, acting as their trusted advisor on critical tax and business decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax managers and staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices and innovative tax technologies to enhance service quality and efficiency.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, professional organizations, and in the business community to enhance visibility and reputation.
  • Collaborate with partners on firm-wide strategic planning, risk management, and new service development.
  • Ensure compliance with all professional standards, ethics, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Active CPA license.
  • 10+ years of extensive and progressive tax experience in public accounting, with a significant portion in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a broad range of complex tax areas, including corporate, partnership, individual, and potentially specialized niches (e.g., M&A, international, state and local tax).
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop a high-performing tax department.
  • Strong track record of successful business development and client relationship management.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Taxation (MST), JD, or LL.M. in Taxation.
  • Established network and reputation within the local business community.
  • Experience in a partner or principal-level role at a reputable CPA firm.
  • Deep expertise in specific industries relevant to the firm's client base (e.g., real estate, manufacturing, technology, non-profits).
